The every even year Pacific Cup race from San Francisco, CA to Hawaii officially started the week of July 4, 2022 from San Francisco Bay to Kane’ohe Yacht Club on O’ahu. 61 boats ranging in size from 24 ft to 70 ft, some of them familiar names from the every odd year TransPac Race to Ala Wai are weaving their way on their own path to get to that mai tai waiting for them at the finish line. The race can take anywhere from the current record of 6 days to a leisurely 17 days, the main pack of the fleet arrives after between 10 and 14 days of open ocean sailing. First started in 1979 as the Kauai race, this year’s race is the 36th semi-annual race across the Pacific. So far the weather reports good conditions for most boats. Participants are communicating with land and some of their reports are collected at this link. You can also track the race by clicking here or the photo on this post. Have fun and be safe racers!
